Proud Supporter
The Metro Atlanta Fire Chiefs Association began in May 1972 when late Chiefs J.G. Rosser
of Hapeville Fire Department and W.J. Guice of the Clayton County Fire Department met to
discuss the need of assistance between fire departments in the event of a major fire. Chief’s
Rosser and Guice eventually met with then Chief Dudley Martin of the DeKalb County Fire
Department to discuss a mutual aid program that eventually led to the organization of the
Metro Atlanta Fire Chiefs Association (MAFCA). Years later, it was that same vision that
led to the movement to create the Georgia Mutual Aid Group in 1994.

Since that time, MAFCA has had many leaders and seen many changes in the fire service.
It is my vision to see MAFCA evolve as the premier professional development fire service
association.  In the last year, we have taken great steps to meet that goal with the revision
of our By-Laws to include private EMS agencies as members, the creation of Sections to
include all individuals from fire departments, and sponsoring meaningful training
opportunities to fire service professionals. In fact, our logo is symbolic of the National Fire
Academy’s Executive Fire Officer pin awarded upon graduation of the EFO Program.

Our membership is continuously growing and consists of fire & EMS agencies, urban &
suburban, career & combination, as well as numerous vendors and non-profits that support
our mission. We are grateful for their participation and support of this Association. Should I
ever be of any assistance to you, please feel free to
contact me. Thanks again for visiting
the Home Page of the Metro Atlanta Fire Chiefs Association.

Sincerely,

Chief B

On March 27-28, 2008, the Metro Atlanta Fire Chiefs Association
hosted a Battalion Chief Development Course at DeKalb County Fire
Headquarters in Tucker, GA. Over 140 fire service professionals
from over 20 different fire service agencies attended the two-day
training. The course was taught by Avondale, Arizona Assistant
Chief Ron Dennis who was brought in for this special training.

Past MAFCA President Billy D. Hayes had previously discussed the
topic with Chief Dennis after learning that this was a routine training
initiative in the Phoenix Valley area and was routinely conducted in
Peoria, AZ. This offering was a condensed version of the Battalion
Chief Academy conducted in Peoria, but included many of the same
topics such as: Accountability Expectations for Chief Officers, Case
Study Methodology, Chief Officer Commitment to Safety,
Leadership Challenge, and Performance Dimensions for Chief
Officers. Chief Hayes presented the idea to the Training Section of
MAFCA for their recommendation and then to the membership for
approval to conduct the course.

MAFCA would like to thank the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs,
Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, and MES, Inc. for their
contributions to sponsor this class, and we especially would like to
thank all those who attended who made this class an overwhelming
success. Several departments have scheduled Chief Dennis to
conduct the same training at their individual departments as well as at
the Georgia Fire Safety Symposium in July 2008. To see pictures
